Resumen: In this work the interaction degree of MIMO controllers is evaluated via model-based sparse configurations. The latter is based on the net load effect (NLE) index which evaluates, at closed loop, the adverse impacts introduced in the controlled outputs by set point and disturbance changes. The internal model control (IMC) theory supports the NLE methodology providing valuable information about the sparse model required (interaction) as well as the control topology (decentralized or centralized) needed. Two case studies (academic and complex nonlinear) are proposed here for testing the advantages of the NLE strategy. Both, the proportional/integrative/derivative (PID) and the model predictive control (MPC) strategies were used successfully.
