CIFASIS, Centro Internacional Franco Argentino de Ciencias de la Información y de Sistemas, is a research unit of the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) located at Centro Científico y Tecnológico Rosario (CCT - Rosario). The center was created in March 2007 as a result of an agreement between the Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III (which since 2012 has been part of the Aix-Marceille Université), the Universidad Nacional de Rosario and CONICET to carry out collaborative research in the fields of Information and Systems Sciences. Its mission is to promote the generation and dissemination of scientific knowledge through research and higher education in the following areas:

  • Data analysis of complex dynamic systems and non-linear time series.
  • Data mining and its applications in bioinformatics.
  • Computer applications in precision agriculture.
  • Modeling and simulation of dynamic systems.
  • Multimedia data processing.
  • Design of process and system control structures.
  • Renewable energy.
  • Optimal operation of processes and systems.
  • Image and signal processing.
  • Software engineering.
  • Generation of software to identify DNA sequences.

Although as of 2015, CIFASIS depends solely on CONICET and UNR, its relationship with three French institutions, namely the Aix-Marseille Université, the Université de Toulon and the Center National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) has been maintained through different international collaboration programs.

The objectives of CIFASIS are focused on:

  • To train human resources from different scientific disciplines at the postgraduate level in order to strengthen the academic - scientific and technological context in the field of ICTs in the region.
  • Strengthen and expand research capabilities in computer science applied to biotechnology and agroindustry and intelligent information processing.
