Resumen: The distance between seeds in the seed lines affects performance. However, current systems do not take into account this information when evaluating the performance of crops. We analyze longitudinal raw spatial corn seed (Zea mays L.) data obtained with a number of buffer oriented opto-electronic seed sensors able to transmit pre-processed data to a central unit using a CAN bus communication facility. The mentioned data exchange involves a real time, low-cost, high- resolution measurement of spatial seed distributions. Aiming to minimize the network traffic, and thus to extend the number of allowable sensors, we propose a process data compression based on the transmission of just representative statistics of chunks of data. This paper shows the reconstruction of the spatial seed distribution on the basis of statistical distribution, whereby significant savings in network traffic can be achieved while maintaining acceptable levels of distortion at reconstruction process in the central unit.
